Description

A simple and flavorful recipe for cooking a whole chicken in a crockpot.


Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken (about 45 pounds)
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 lemon, quartered
  • Fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, or parsley)

Instructions

  1. Remove the giblets from the chicken.
  2. Pat the chicken dry with paper towels.
  3. Season the chicken inside and out with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  4. Place the lemon quarters and fresh herbs inside the cavity of the chicken.
  5. Place the chicken in the crockpot, fillet side up.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
  7. Remove the chicken from the crockpot and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before carving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add vegetables like carrots and potatoes in the bottom of the crockpot.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • You can use the leftover bones to make chicken broth.
